아트 패턴 제품을 위한 디자인 제안

몇년전부터 아트패턴 제품이 많이 출시되어 많은 사랑을 받고 있습니다.

아트패턴 제품이 무엇이냐구요?
옆에 있는 잡지에서 보듯이 소비자들의 감성적(?) 욕구를 충족하기 위해 표면에 아름다운 그림(예술작가들의 그림)을 넣은 제품을 말합니다.

옆의 디자인은 앙드레김과 같은 유명디자이너들이 표면디자인을 했다고 합네요. 제가 저 잡지를 DESIGN 잡지의 11월호 에서 발췌한 것이니, 시간이 좀 지나... 이제는 본격적으로 아트와 디자인이 만난다는 컨셉으로 패션, 제품, 광고계 등등에서 예술을 이용한 마케팅 or 디자인을 하고 있어, 소비자들에게 꾀나 호응을 받고 있습니다.

정말 예쁘지 않나요? 집안의 모든 가구를 저렇게 꾸밀 수야 없지만(물론, 그럴 필요도 없고...), 집안살림에 전혀 관심이 없는 저도 포인트로 한 두개 정도는 들여놓고 싶다는 생각을 합니다. 저 제품 하나로 우중충한 주방의 분위기가 확~ 살아날 수 있을 테니까요...

자... 이렇듯 소비자의 needs가 있고, 대 기업을 중심으로 아트제품의 트랜드를 리드해 나가는 상황입니다. 너나 나나 잘 알만한 큰 기업에서는 트랜드 메니저가 있어서 시장조사도 하고, 유명 아티스트들에게 디자인을 의뢰해서 하나의 제품을 만들어 내는데 큰 어려움이 없을것이라고 감히 생각해 봅니다.

하지만, 중소기업에서는 유명 아티스트를 섭외하기는 커녕 시장조사도 제대로 하기가 힘든 상황이죠. 굳이 브랜드 제품이 아니라 하더라도 좀 싸고 예쁜 디자인을 찾는 사람들이 많이 있지 않습니까...? 이런 사람들에게 좋은 디자인으로 예쁜 제품을 제공하고자 하는 중소기업에서는 어떤 디자인이 유행하고 있는지... 어떤 디자인이 어떤 제품에 잘 어울릴지 알기가 무척이나 어렵습니다. 안 하는것이 아니라 어렵습니다.

거기에 복잡한 인쇄공정과 마케팅의 어려움 등등을 포함하면 상당히 머리 아프죠. 그중에서 중소기업 사장님들께서 가장 힘들어 하시는것이 이 디자인 입니다. 트랜드 파악이 힘들다는 문제를 넘어서, 제품표면에 들어갈 디자인을 한다는 것이 그저 모니터 상에서 보는것과는 달리 인쇄 공정에따라, 인쇄 기기에 따라, 어떤 제품이냐에 따라... 색감과 형태가 미세하게 달라져야 하기 때문입니다. (실제로 어제 만난 프린트업체에서는 자체 디자인을 만들려고 1년 반동안 디자인을 했다가 포기 해버렸다고 하더군요.)

예술의 도시에도 중소기업에서 이런 문의가 참 많이 들어오고 있고, 그동안은 주문제작 방식으로 소극적인 마케팅을 해 왔습니다. 그렇다보니, 실무에서 제작하시는 분들은 예도에서 판매하는 이미지가 모니터로 보기엔 아름답지만, 실질적인 제품을 만들기 위해 프린트 해 보면 그만한 퀄리티를 내기가 정말 어렵다고 하소연 하시곤 합니다. 결국 디자인 이라는 것이 시장조사에서부터 제품이 실제로 나와 판매되기 까지의 모든 공정을 아우르는 것임을 뼈저리게 느끼는 대목입니다. 그래서, 요즘은 여러 인쇄소도 돌아다니고 가구와 같은 제품을 만드는 공장에도 찾아가 보고... 대기업의 신 제품은 어떤것들이 있는지 스크랩도 하는등 여러가지 노력을 하고 있지요. 물론, 시장에 맞는 디자인을 내놓기 위해서 입니다.

지금까지는, 인테리어나 제품에 맞을만한 이미지를 골라서 패키지를 만드는 작업을 했고, 두개의 패키지가 출시 되었습니다. "이 이미지를 사주세요"라기 보다는 겔러리 형태로 전반적인 트랜드를 제안하는 입장에서 만들어진 것이죠. 앞으로는 트랜드 제안뿐만 아니라 각각의 기업이나 소비자의 욕구에 따른 일대일 디자인 작업을 적극적을 하게 될거라네요. ^^*
